Hola! My name is Shemikah.
I am currently a naturopathic medical student in the incredibly sunny state of Arizona at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. I have a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Troy University. As an undergraduate I was double majored in Biology and Psychology at the University of Evansville. I have a love for research as I have spent the majority of my career conducting investigative studies into the effects of botanical medicine/nutraceuticals in reversing the effects of alcohol on zebrafish embryos as a model for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. I have completed multiple internships in pharmaceutical research and development at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company; submitted and defended numerous abstracts and posters at national conventions and have given presentations at various scientific forums on this topic. All the while the ultimate goal has been to become a doctor that utilized all facets of allopathic and alternative medicine to fully assist a patient in prevention, treatment, and recovery.
I created this blog as an outlet to discuss all things school, health, and lifestyle related. You will come to find out that I’m an interesting nerd with serious cool points. Former allopathic medical student, navigating the world of naturopathic medicine. Change is good! Especially when you like your evolution! One cannot be selfless without being selfish first! A lot has changed over the last few months and as I embark on this new journey into naturopathic medicine, I want to share my findings, curiosities, and aha moments with all who will watch, read, or listen!!
